This oil painting was inspired by a sunset that I once witnessed at Denver International Airport. It had become a real thundery day after temperatures had climbed up to the nineties. The clouds had formed these pillar type shapes, while across the skyline shafts of light emanated from beneath a cloud layer clinging to the peaks of the Colorado Rockies.
At first I was going to paint it with all the aircraft and ground crew vehicles in, but decided that editing that out would make it more marketable. So instead I put in the grassy plane and a tumbledown shack, long abandoned but for the crows.
