VOY: PRODUCTION NOTES
When Paramount launched their own television network in 1994, they also launched their own Star Trek series -- Voyager. With the ending of the seventh season on May 23, 2001,
171 episodes --> were produced and aired. As with the previous two series, Voyager closed with its seventh season.
VOY: SETTING
Voyager also takes place in the 24th century and
is named for the starship on which it is set, the U.S.S. Voyager. In the series' pilot episode, Voyager is involved in a skirmish with the Maquis (described under the 'Aliens' section for DS9), when they are suddenly whisked across the galaxy into the Delta Quadrant. The surviving members of both parties now have a common mission -- to get home. The journey should take about 70 years, unhindered...
VOY: ALIENS
Two new Delta Quadrant races are represented on Voyager's crew: Telaxians and Ocampans. Since the ship is traveling very fast to get back to the Alpha Quadrant, alien races are engaged for brief periods of time. "Q" of TNG appeared in several episodes so far, and it should be noted that The Borg are originally from the Delta Quadrant. (Voyager moves into Borg space at the close of season three.)
VOY: UNIVERSE
Basically, though names and appearances have changed, we find the universe in the Delta Quadrant to be as riddled with troublesome races as we find in our own neck of the woods (Alpha Quadrant). The big difference here is that The Federation simply needs to remain untangled in Delta Quadrant affairs, and just get on their merry way.
VOY: TECHNOLOGY
Because Voyager hails from the 24th century, we are introduced to no new technologies. One addition came with a jump to the future: self-portable holograms! The holographic doctor, previously confined to places on the ship having holo-projectors, has now acquired a device he wears on his sleeve that enables him to take form whenever and wherever he likes...
