BRIEF HISTORY

Moira Mc Taggert is a very important scientist, specialised in genetics and winner of the Nobel prize. She is as well head of her clan, and heritier to Lord Kinross, owning a small isle in the north of Scotland, were her center of research is located. There she used to have as well some high security cells were extremely dangerous mutants could be held for study. Logically, the whole island is under great control, having one only blind point, in the cliffs.

Moira used to be in love with Charles Xavier, but dropped him to marry Joe Mc Taggert, a handsome officer who resulted to be a brute, beating her once and again. After spending some time in the hospital, raped and beaten by Joe, she decided to abandon him, and though he refused to divorce her, finding useful to have a wife with a Nobel for his political career, he didn't care enough for him to try to persuade her.

Moira learned then that she was pregnant, but told nothing to Joe, giving birth to a son she called Kevin. Unfortunately, the kid was a mutant, so powerful that his body was not able to contain the enormous energy inside. Moira had to lock him in a pressured cell to avoid his death, and in the cell he stood for his childhood. Somehow, Kevin, also called mutant alpha and Proteus, escaped, using the body of a fisher, and after consuming it, using one and another to get to his father, who didn't pay attention to Moira's advice and got also consumed by his son. Bad news were that Kevin, who was at first trying to avenge his mother, shared his father's points of view after the absortion, and with his powers of altering reality messed up all the X Men's minds and turned Edimburgh into horror and despair. The only thing able to destroy the boy was iron, and since he was too mad and dangerous to be kept alive, using Colossus blinded form they dispersed his energy matrix and destroyed him. His mother, however, kept his corpse in an attempt to bring him back to life, but left it dissappear after Banshee talked her out.

Moira adopted young Rahne Sinclair, an orphan girl who was being raised by the priest of the land, but her mutant power of turning into a wolf made them believe she was possessed by the devil. After rescuing her from a mob, Moira sent her to Xavier, to teach her how to deal with her ability.

Moira agreed to spend some time in the Xavier's mansion to help him with the new X Men, and there she met Banshee, having a relationship with him for a very long time. After he lost his sonic scream, they both went to Muir Island, were Jamie Madrox and Syrin were as well. During the mutant massacre, the injured morlocks were taken there, and Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler also recovered there, that's why they weren't with the X Men during their deaths in Dallas, being that the origin of Excalibur.

Some time later, the Shadow King visited Muir Island, taking control of all the inhabitants. Then, Moira even tried to kill Sean, but didn't success. Although they were freed from its control, the bond between them began to freeze, and is now under a crisis, after being Sean the last one to learn, by the TV that she has a mortal illness. The main cause of Moira's distress (Before the Legacy virus, of course) was that she had played with Magneto's DNA when he was turned into a kid and put under her custody, trying to improve him, but resulting into a malfunction if his genetic structure. When Magneto discovered that, at first he decided to torture her, but before his -suppossed- death, forgave her. Moira, however, wasn't able to forgive herself and walked away from her beloved ones.

Moira was not used to leave the island very often, except to help Xavier (She once was kidnapped by Arcade as well), but now that she has discovered her being the first human infected with the Legacy Virus, - she thinks due to her performance of Illyana's autopsy or her being mother to a mutant - she never gets out (except once, when due to a promise made to his lover when they were very young, both her and Xavier went to Paris), being helped in her research for a cure by a brilliant scientist, Rory Campbell. Her island has been as well a base for Excalibur for a long time now.
