The spirits of the eight legged reptilian monsters
known as Basilisks are sometimes summoned by the worst of mages to act as protectors of their lairs. The spirits
exist on the ethereal and material planes and they still possess the gaze that enables them to turn any fleshy
creature to stone; their gaze extends into the Astral and Ethereal planes. Spirit basilisks seek only to destroy
living creatures.
Combat:
No longer able to use its strong, toothy jaws, the spirit basilisk's major weapon is its gaze. If its gaze is
reflected, however, it cannot be harmed since it has no corporeal form. In the Astral plane its gaze kills; in
the Ethereal plane it turns victims into ethereal stone. These will only be seen by those in the Ethereal plane
or who can see ethereal objects.
Spirit basilisks are undead class and thus immune to sleep, charm, hold, death magic, poisons, and cold-based spells.
A vial of holy water inflicts 2-8 points of damage to them. They can be turned as Spectres.
