Appearance:
The squid of despair looks much like the giants squid and, in fact, evolved magically from that creature. The Despair
Squid has ten tentacles, is yellowish grey in color and sports a huge beak and bulging eyes.
The body of the squid if very hard, affording it
an armor class of -1, though the tentacles are spongier (AC 3).
Combat:
The squid attacks with up to all ten of its massive tentacles at once. Each tentacle can attack as a blunt weapon
(2-12 hp damage) or can attempt to wrap around the victim (opponents up to 10' in height). The wrap causes no damage
the first round, but in every subsequent round causes double normal damage (4-24). If caught in the crush, victims
may attempt to break free each round by making a bend bars roll at -20% penalty.
The deadliest and most powerful defense mechanism
of the squid is its despair ink. This ink is a strong contact poison. When coming in contact with the ink (ink
will soak through leather or clothing but not metal armor), victims must make a save vs. poison or immediately
commit suicide. The save must be made for each round for 2-20 rounds. Each subsequent round, the there is a cumulative
-1 penalty as the dispair gets worse. Neutralize Poison spells or magical anti-poison ointments will negate the
effects in one round. The natural antidote is dust from a pixie's wings or water a pixie bathed in combined with
two hairs from an elf and non-salt (fresh) purified water.
The squid sometimes becomes frenzied and attacks
ships sailing over its deep sea bed. Its powerful tentacles prove to be a bane to passing ships. If the squid is
able to wrap two or more tentacles around the ship's hull, it can crush the ship, much like it can crush an opponent,
doing 5 points of structural damage to the ship each round.
Habitat/Society:
The squid lives inthe deepest part of the Inner Sea, usually agreed upon to be somewhere between northern Rohan
and western Maphore.
Ecology:
The squid is a product of the wild magic fiasco called The Darkening. The magic changed the nature of a giant squid,
causing it to grow to an enourmous size and mutating the ink so as to cause despair when come in contact with.
