June 13th , 2031
On Friday, June the 13th, 2031, at 3:13pm the world ceased to be what it was and humanity entered a new era. As a result of an experiment accident (see The Swifter Project) a permanent gateway between the physical world and the NEP (Negative Energy Plane) was created.
The immediate results of the opening was felt all over the world. The intense flow of energy cause the Bad Luck Effect (as defined by Dr. Kirshov) in a magnitude never before felt. Whatever could go wrong actually did go wrong. It started with small things such as people cutting themselves shaving or preparing food, slipping in the bathroom, spilling coffee, breaking dishes, etc.
But all the these misfortunes didn’t claim any casualties. The enormous amount of car accidents, the medical equipment malfunctioning, the jet engines shutdowns, and more like these did claim their deaths. As did the sudden rain in mid summer that caused floods, the earthquakes that occurred hourly, lethal plagues that affected hundreds, and more. The casualties count was several thousands a day. Luckily everything calmed after a couple of days.
After everything calmed down, humanity started to repair all the damages done by the impact of the NEP energy on the physical world. The world went back to it’s regular pace a month later - or at least so it seemed.
The major difference from the world before June 2031 and after is the Psionics. People started having these mind powers the moment the gateway opened. The ones that were more tuned complained about headaches and even momentary blackouts. At first the powers came as outbursts of visions, but as time went by, people learned to tame the powers and use them to their own ends. At 2032 the Psi Core was created to give an official seal to the new found powers. Everybody has Psionics attunement in sore form, but not always at a level that can be noticed and used.
And then there are the less felt differences. Some sinister dark power in now present on Earth. Some people encounter unexplained evil phenomena, while others report seeing evil creatures of the night. As for now these phenomena are unexplained, but the prophets (the 7 people with the strongest Psi power on earth) say that there is evil on earth and is now in preparation for something much worse. Something is locked behind the open gateway and wants to find its way in. Humanity has not yet seen the start of what technology had brought on it.
