They were believed to not be able to:
1.) Walk into church's
2.) Hypnotise people
3.) Fly
4.) Look at crosses
These vampires were usually believed to have been summoned by a demon or devil to cause harm the the people it loved before it became "undead." This vampire lived until it eventually decayed into nothing. Until a hundred years ago, vampire was spelled vampyre. One kind of "vampyres" used to hit the backs of people and then drink their blood. Another was an ancient greek vampyre was a woman who had wings and the body of a serphant, she would feast on the blood of men. And another form of vampyres in the middle ages supposedly had a long tongue and would go from house to house sucking the blood from infants with its long tongue. Of course, these are all myths. But isn't it funny how every culture has had one form of vampyre or another?
Vampires are our modern day vampyres. From Brahm Stroker, to Anne Rice, these are essentially, vampires of the present. Now, for vampires like Dracula, these vampires can do the following:
1.) Fly
2.) Hypnotise
3.) Have incredible strenth
4.) Life Eternal
5.) Love (as if you have read the novel "Dracula", Dracula became ticked because his wife's life was taken as a revenge of the Turk's. He cursed the devil and became the Prince of Darkness. And he finds his love has reincarnated and in the end is killed).
6.) Walk in sunlight (in the novel, all it did to him was make him weaker. At night, supposedly, he was at his full power).
7.)Turn into various shapes from bats, to wolves.
8.) And had the ability to age or become younger.
According to myth, the vampire must:
1.) Sleep on his native soil.
2.) Sleep in a coffin.
3.) Drink blood to survive.
And last of all, the vampire was not able to:
1.) Smell or touch garlic.
2.) Look at crosses.
3.) Walk over water.
4.) And 1, 2, and 3 are enough.
1.) Jump very high
2.) Live forever (and never age)
3.) Smell garlic
4.) Can look at crosses
5.) Move faster than the eye can see
6.) Have incredible strength.
The vampire could not:
1.) Be in sunlight (note: According to the book "The Vampire Lestat", if the vampire was in sunlight, it would turn to ashes and return in some form and eventually return to the vampires original state after a long time if the ashes were not scattered. According the the movie "Interview with the Vampire," sunlight means death.)
2.) Love other than its own kind, meaning it can only love other vampires, not mortals (another happy note* in the book, "The Vampire Lestat," this is a major issue, of whether Lestat can love vampires and mortals. When I am done with the book, I will give you a better answer on this one. Right now it is just a guess).
3.) Sleep without a coffin (though, I don't know what happens if you don't sleep in a coffin).
As you can see, there are so many forms of vampires, that there are many laws. Basically a vampire is one who needs blood to survive. The difference between vampire and vampyre is that one if modern day and usually goes by different "laws" and vampyre is the old (and different) kind of vampire. So, you can see how it all goes. Now, if you are done here...
Well...I doubt this will be updated much, unless I find something new out.
