Firefly is a
much anticipated new science
fiction adventure series created by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon.
The series is set four hundred years in our future.
The series is geared up to debut this fall Friday nights on the Fox network and will be kicked off with a
two-hour pilot episode written and directed by Joss Whedon. The show is a space western style
series centered on Malcolm Reynolds, a war veteran who commands a salvage
vessel, The Serenity. The crew of the Serenity operate outside of the law and in
secret from the Alliance. While trying to keep one step ahead of The Alliance,
Reynolds must also deal with The Reavers, a group of savage ultra-violent marauders
that live on the frontier of space.
Serenity is a Firefly
class starship and packs some serious speed and power. This series is sure to be
quite different from Whedon's work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and it
also includes many twists to some expected science fiction traditions. Fox has ordered
13 episodes of the series and will air them Friday nights beginning in the fall
of 2002. The show stars Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres and Adam (Independence Day,
X-Files) Baldwin.
