Kaitlyn Fairchild and her friends--psychics all--fled the Zetes Institute and sought help from a secret "cult" that stood against Mr. Zetes and his dark psychics. But Gabriel defected, determined to destroy the telepathic link that binds them all together. Kaitlyn went after him, hoping to stop him and possibly sabotage Zetes' plans. Now, however, she's caught in a trap of her own making, forced to assist Zetes in increasing his already corrupted power base. Can Kaitlyn stop him--with or without Gabriel's help--and without falling prey to the dark psychics he has watching her?
Dark Visions--The Passion is the third and final volume of the Dark Visions trilogy. As conclusions go it isn't the best--the ending of The Secret Circle trilogy was better--but it still has its high points. The opportunity to actually meet the dark psychics in person (who were only alluded to before) and seeing them in action (where before we only saw their handiwork) is definitely a good inclusion. Seeing the corruption of the Institute's crystal was also an enjoyable addition.
No saga of the battle between good and evil would ever be complete without a final charge of the cavalry, and Smith doesn't disappoint here. "Charge of the Light Brigade" sounds like a fairly good description of it (though I don't remember reading the poem), especially considering that Kaitlyn was in a sensory deprivation tank for who knows how long. Then there's Gabriel wielding a crystal shard like a knight's lance--or dagger at least--to add to the imagery. And of course, Kaitlyn always associated Rob with sunlight, Finally, you naturally have the kind of happy ending you'd expect after such a long struggle to victory. Defininitely worth reading.
Although a YA novel, Dark Visions--The Passion and its predecessors are enjoyable reads that you shouldn't dismiss out of hand simply because they are targeted for younger readers. Their exploration of extra-sensory perception in a modern, current setting makes it easier to relate to. There are lessons that can be learned from the text as well, so why not enjoy the immediacy, the nowness of the book yourself and reap its lessons on life and existence? Read it today!
