That said, on to the review!
Harry Keogh, the world's only known Necroscope, recovered his deadspeak and his ability to enter the Mobius Continuum, but not without paying an extreme price. He has begun to change, and not just in his habits or personality. The transformation is far deeper and more malevolent: he's becoming the very thing he's fought against for so long! As his allies become leery of him, Harry goes on with life as best he can. And when the dead cry for help against a maniacal, female-stalking fiend, Harry does his best to help. However, it quickly becomes apparent that whatever lurks within the Necroscope is beginning its ascendancy.
Hunted by those he once called friends, Harry has no choice but to flee his very universe. His destination? The source world of the vampires. Before he goes, however, he has his assignment to fulfill: capture--or destroy--the maniac who somehow also possesses deadspeak! It won't be easy, because now Harry has watchers watching him, and they're not there to study his methods. Well, they are, but not for quite the same reason. Harry's vampire is ascending, and it's only a matter of time before he loses control. Finished with his life in the one world, he leaves for the other...and discovers chaos!
The battle for existence that rocked the source world wiped out most, but not all of the Wamphyri. A handful still remain, and they languish out in the icy wastelands to the north...or do they? One Wamphyri lady Harry thought dead survived--to his relative pleasure--and where one survived, others may have persevered likewise. Soon enough Harry and his new lady learn the truth: the Wamphyri are preparing to return, and their mission is vengeance. They bring with them a strange, new ally, however: one of the greatest and oldest vampires yet living!
I enjoy reading about vampires, and I enjoy reading about psychic phenomena. This book (and its nine related siblings) combines both my interests into a potent, compelling novel that I couldn't put down. You don't need to read the first books (reviews are in the Archive) to understand what's happening in this book, but I suggest you start at the very beginning of the series. It's not only easier to understand that way, you won't miss a single exciting minute! Warning: contains some graphic/sexual content.
