That said, on to the review!
With the Lyon children well on the way to establishing themselves as competent adults and potent Primes, their maturation couldn't come at a better time. The Alliance between the Human and the Mrdini races has decided to prevent the Hivers from devastating anymore worlds, and it will take all the Prime Talents FT&T has to offer to pull it off. Whether stationed in a Tower like Laria or aboard a ship like Thian and Rojer, the Lyon children--along with the other high Talents in the family and beyond--have roles to play in the upcoming confrontations with the Hivers. But who is the real enemy, the Hivers...or the Human and Mrdini races? Because now the deadlier problems are coming from their own in the form of Mrdini captains seeking glory and honor or humans protesting the development of deadly and deadlier weaponry for use against the Hivers. Will the Lyon clan succeed in their assignments or will the three-front war prove too much for them?
Lyon's Pride is a terrific book, and not just because of the play on the title. True, it is to Afra and Damia Raven-Lyon's pride to have such powerful and mature children carrying on the family traditions of being upstanding individual Talents. But a lion's family unit is also called a pride, and you certainly can't deny that the Lyon clan with its two parents, eight children, and eighteen Mrdini companions is more like a lion's pride than an ordinary family. But either way you look at it, the title is certainly appropriate for this great novel.
I guess the part I liked best is that high Talents other than the Lyon clan (at least not immediately or directly connected to them) play major roles in the book. I enjoyed meeting Prime Flavia Bastianmajani, whose grandparents, if you'll recall, were first introduced in The Rowan. And I also liked the glimpses we got of some of the Lyons' Denebian relatives like Clancy Sparrow, Rhodri Eagle, and Asia Eagle. Don't you just love all these names? Rowan, Raven, Lyon, Sparrow, and Eagle. All the same, it's nice to see other families rising to prominence, like Flavia's. But with so many high Talents in one family, you can't quite break away from the Lyon clan, nor do you want to, because they have played such integral parts in this ongoing conflict that they're indispensable!
Lyon's Pride is the stunning conclusion (not!) of an outstanding series of books. And it, like its predecessors, is definitely worth reading over and over again. So if you don't mind, I'll just end this review here so I can read it again! And when you read it, I'm sure you'll feel the same way!
