Andrew's life started with death. His mother was a Solo on the run, and his father has never been identified. On the way to an abortion clinic, his mother was shot. She was immediately taken to the hospital. Her coma lasted for six months (she had a lot of medical insurance to burn off). He was delivered by c-section and adopted by a corporate couple. His birth mother’s insurance ran out and she was unplugged. They made sure he was understood that he was bought, and they could sell him anytime they wanted. This gave him a unique outlook on life, and it has served him very well. He was treated as a hired hand by his peers, who sneered as his unusual upbringing. He worked diligently to become indispensable to high placed members of the hierarchy where he could stage his own rebirth. He succeeded spectacularly, setting up competitors for failure with a smiling façade and propping up heroes that he could remove when he wished. By the time he had graduated from college, most admitted that he was bound to go far in the corporate world. One professor in particular admired Andrew's dedication and clever manipulation, a professor of economics named Schue. He presented his most promising student with a gold pocket watch the day Aldrich left for the mean streets of finance
Through diligence, ruthlessness, and constant work, Aldrich climbed the corporate ladder. His never-ending study and natural intelligence gave him a decided edge over his competitors. Today, he is a major player in the takeover department of Arasaka. He usually helps to run interference in the stock and bond market, as well as choosing targets. This serves him well with his other activity. While rising through the ranks, he happened across two individuals, the King of Spades and Bender. The power and passion they exuded intoxicated him. He knew they were going somewhere with an intensity that matched his own. He has taken their cause, the Church of the Silver Savior, as his own. Despite claims to the contrary, he does not really consider them friends; he considers them symbols. Whether or not he actually believes in the church is a tricky matter. He says he does and Bender has subtly worked on his mind for months, but his entire life is characterized by a loose use of the truth and intricate plans and counterplans. Some think that even he doesn't know his real feelings.
In person, Aldrich is both comforting and disturbing. His face is young and unlined; he looks to be only twenty-five, instead of thirty-two. With soft blue eyes and reddish blonde hair in a mass of curls, his entire appearance is of utter innocence. His demeanor, however, is one of utter contempt and power. Every action he takes is a forceful conquering of space, and he enters and exits every relationship on his terms. He has gone through a steady string of romances, but never anything serious. He researches every move and interaction thoroughly before making it, and he always has a backup plan in reserve. Despite his cold veneer and pragmatic attitude, he has one affection that he refuses to leave behind, his gold pocketwatch.
