Creating Sacred Space |
---|
If you are trying to work in a specifically Druidic way that you consider
using three symbols in the home -- earth, air, and water -- to represent
Land, Air, and Sea. This can be incense or candles, pottery, a fountain or
bowl or simply sea salt. Invoke the three realms and pay them homage.
Blessings, toadie Simple Rituals for Sacred Space in Your Home or Yard 1. Darken the room or go outside in the dark and light a candle. As you do, picture in your mind a shimmering, sparkling band of light connecting you to the heavens. Pause for a moment and say a quiet thank you to the godhead. Go about your work, leaving the candle burning. 2. Upon rising in the morning, go to a window (east facing is best, if possible), raise both arms, palms up, to shoulder height, and greet the new day. Making a habit of this gesture brings the divine into each mundane day. 3. Walk deosil (sunwise) around your altar, a stone, a birdbath, whatever you have designated as sacred space, three or six or nine times, softly chanting "Awen, awen, awen..." If you have a spot of sacred water such as a spring, a well, a stream, a fountain, a birdbath, etc., drop in a small offering (colored marbles or shiny pennies make great offerings); if you have an available tree, tie a prayer rag (torn strip of old cloth) to it; or if you have none of these things, cut an apple or other piece of fruit to leave for the birds. Even a handful of birdseed can be an offering. 4. Learn a pagan song and sing it with arms raised to shoulder height, palms up, in supplication. |
