Jay, Lila, and Dr. Cooper travel to the jungles of Central America searching for the answers to the deaths of a group of American treasure hunters. Stories have been told that the group died from the curse of Toco-Rey, but the Coopers do not believe it. They want to know what truly caused the deaths of these Americans and what the curse of Toco-Rey really is. While in pursuit of these answers they encounter a group of natives that shoot poisonous darts, and flying slugs, whose slime is deadly. The curse of Toco-Rey is greatly feared by the natives, and they do not take kindly to outsiders. Jay and Lila are then taken hostage, and Dr. Cooper must find them and a cure for the deadly curse. His only thoughts are of finding his children safe and sound, and how to stay alive in order to accomplish this.
While we humans do know much about the jungles, we truly do not know every little secret and deadly plague each jungle might hold. Peretti established this fact in this book. This one was good because it related a legend to something that really occurred, at least in the book. It was also filled with suspense because you didn't know who was trustworthy, and you weren't sure what twist Peretti would throw in next.
