The Coopers are interrupted during their vacation to investigate a mysterious carving on the side of a rock formation. It is believed to resemble Annie Murphy, a woman of the 1880's who was convicted and shot for the murder of her husband, Cyrus Murphy. The legend says she murdered him out of greed because he had struck gold in one of the mines near their home. While investigating the scene, Jay and Lila disappear and a strange man appears. As Dr. Cooper begins unraveling this mystery, he realizes that the answers he seek span over a time period of a century. Things keep getting weirder and weirder for both Dr. Cooper and his children, and only time will tell if they can solve this mystery or not.
This book was really weird, but I liked it. Peretti put lots of thought into this one. The story takes many different twists and turns, and most of the time, you have no clue what will happen next.
