Emerald is a beautiful, brilliant green member of the beryl family. Emeralds promote clairvoyance and all types of seeing, they are said to open the psychic eye. They were thought to help physical eyesight too, there is evidence that, in ancient times, wealthy Romans used Emerald eye-glasses if they had a problem with their eyesight. Emerald is said to help you see clearly, in all situations as it promotes wisdom and clear vision and can give greater insight into all things. It is also thought to aid and strengthen the memory. Emerald is also a protective stone and was worn, bound to the left arm, to protect the traveller. They were also worn to ward off demonic possession and given to people thought to be possessed, to exorcise the evil spirit within them.

Emerald is the 'unconditional love' stone. It inspires love, kindness and tranquillity and can be used in magical rituals to bring love into your life. 'Charge' an Emerald with your intention by visualising, whilst holding it, or after placing it by a green candle. When the stone is 'charged' wear it, or carry it close to your heart, but where it cannot be seen by others. You should soon meet your future love!

Emeralds are also used in business spells to attract customers and promote sales. Burn a green candle, anointed with perhaps Patchouli essential oil, hold an Emerald and visualise the business as being successful, with plenty of customers and money coming in! (If Emeralds are just too expensive for you to buy for these rituals, Aquamarine, Beryl or Green Tourmaline can be used as 'magical substitutions'.)
