Garnet comes in a variety of colours, red and green being the most popular. Although often associated with January birthdates perhaps, due to their fiery red colour and affinity with Mars, they are better suited to Aries. Garnet is worn to enhance bodily strength and endurance. It is a healing stone which regenerates body systems - especially the blood stream. It is a good purifier and said to relieve skin conditions and inflammations. It is used for treating rheumatism and arthritis.

When worn on the left side of the body Garnets are said to protect against depression. Hundreds of years ago they were believed to protect against demons and night phantoms. A lion was carved on to a Garnet and carried in the Middle Ages, whilst travelling, to guard the health of the traveller. The Garnet was also said to warn the wearer of imminent danger. In the 13th Century they were worn to repel insects.

Traditionally Garnets were worn to bring success and new business opportunities and are associated with self confidence and popularity. Red Garnet is linked to love and passion and increases the sensual side of our beings. The green Garnet brings peace and serenity and is useful during meditation.

It is said that when Garnets are exchanged between parting friends it symbolises their affections and ensures that they will meet up again in the future.
