* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SATURN (CHRONOS) The planet of Sorrow. We all know Saturn as Old Father Time. He is the most ancient of all the Gods, the son of Uranus by Gaea. He dethroned his father and rather nastily devoured all his children except Jupiter - who eventually dethroned him. The planet of Misery and Evil - of promises denied or withheld until it's almost too late to gain benefit, his keynote is Obstruction. Since earliest times astrologers have equated Saturn with adversity, and called it a "malefit" planet. Where Jupiter gives - Saturn takes away, and he represents Coldness, Restriction and Iron discipline. We can, though, use his restrictions wisely, giving us patience, prudence, stability and intellectual depth. He goes through each House roughly about every two and a half years, his own House being Capricorn, and as such, Saturn has influence over knees and ankles. So, the rule of thumb is: what Jupiter promises, Saturn denies - but take heart, there are other planets and calculations which levels things up in a chart, so it's not all doom and gloom.
