Campaign Finance Reform

Use internet web pages as an alternative to expensive television ad campaigns as currently done in the United States.

Perhaps you would laugh at the ideas of attempting a political campaign by relying on the internet. But in years to come when the internet is more universally available, millions of voters will be able to see web pages that cost very little to set-up.

Even today a large number of voters could access a candidate's web page. Some of those with no internet access could see print-outs of web pages distributed by friends, co-workers, and political activists.

When it becomes a habit for voters to look-up web sites to learn about candidates, it will matter less how much money is spent on television campaigns.

What we should do:

  • Candidates running for all levels of government should set up web sites explaining their positions on the issues.
  • State and/or local governments should maintain "official" web sites with links to the web pages of all candidates that will appear on the ballot. Of course there is nothing to stop others from setting-up alternative lists of candidates, including candidates that don't make it on the ballot.

The Philosophy: A candidate should be elected on the basis of the quality of their philosophies and not on the basis of how much money they are able to spend.
