According to some notes, probably written by my grt grandmother, my ancestor, Joseph Buckalu, had 5 siblings. I can find traces of the other 4, but nothing on Polly. So far everything has verfied what she had written.

Children of Joseph & Catherine Gulick Buckalew (from NJ to PA ca. 1804). They were md. by the time her father wrote his will in Apr. 1798:

That same source, identified to me only by e-mail address <buckaloo@neto.com>, stated further,"Since their home was east of the Alleghenies at the start of their trip, they had to make the ascent of a mountain in a hoist attached to a huge engine at the summit, and were then lowered down the other side by means of a similar carrier. They then proceeded by train to Pittsburg, traveled by boat down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi River to Savanna, IL, from which they headed to Dixon, Lee County. At first they rented around for a few years until they settled on a farm in the ssBend near Grand Detour, about four miles north of Dixon. Joseph Buckalu farmed there until his early death in 1852. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon."
