On 15 September 1861 when Mary Emelia was 15, she married Elijah William Cottrill, son of Elijah Cottrill & Mary McCumber, in Jackson Co., VA. Born in March 1841 in Jackson Co., VA. Elijah William died in Mason Co., WV, on 31 March 1910; he was 69. Buried on 2 April 1910 in Morgan Cem. Occupation: Farmer.

Mil. Svc.:: Pvt; Co I, 11th Reg't VA Inf, which became Co I, 11th Reg't WV Inf. Mustered 16 June 1862 at Ravenswood, VA at the age of 22 years. Mustered out 17 June 1865, Richmond, VA.
