Robert was a retired steelworker and had lived in McClellandtown, PA, for 51 years and had returned to live in Terra Alta for 8 years. He was a member of the Terra Alta First United Methodist Church and had been married more than 65 years.

On 25 December 1912 when Robert H. was 23, he married Gladys Ulalia Beatty (2031) , daughter of James William Beatty (March 1861-before 1910) & Mary Sidney Buckalew (1085) (April 1863-20 April 1935), in Terra Alta, Preston Co., WV. Born on 1 December 1894 in Salt Lake Community, Preston Co., WV. Gladys Ulalia died in High Point, NC, on 14 January 1986; she was 91. Buried in Terra Alta Cem., Terra Alta, Preston Co., WV.
