More from Jack: "Just completed organizing my information from trip to archives. Maternal G.G.Grandfather Nelson Jackson Montgomery ran away from ... (personal conflict with ) step-father, Henry Allen and went to live with an older brother. (This is family history). Guess who he lived with? Jonathan T. Montgomery and wife Elizabeth J. Buckalew (Abner and Charlotte's daughter). Confirmed by 1860 Jasper County, Miss. Census.

In 1859/1860 when Elizabeth was 18, she married Jonathan Tolbert Montgomery, son of John Nelson Montgomery (13 August 1801-9 July 1849) & Jane G. Champion (1809-17 June 1873), in Jasper Co., MS ? Born on 24 November 1838 in Clarke Co., AL. Jonathan Tolbert died before January 1910; he was 71. Buried in Hickory Grove C., Laurel, Jones Co., MS.

Stone inscription, Hickory Grove Cemetery, Laurel, Jones Co., MS: "J. T. Montgomery; Nov. 24, 1838; Jan .... [Stone broken] ; husband of Elizabeth Montgomery." (Provided by Frederick Jackson "Jack" Buckelew in letter 17 Aug 1996.)

Jack also wrote, ...

"J. T. Montgomery was the brother of my great-grandfather Nelson Jackson Montgomery.

"I think I told you about a Montgomery-Buckelew connection, but I was not sure who Elizabeth Buckelew Montgomery was until I saw the graves. MARY'S PEOPLE, p. 218, # 423, has Elizabeth with Abner & Charlotte in 1850 census.

"Parents of J. T. & Nelson J. Montgomery were John N. Montgomery, 8-13-1801 -- July 9, 1849, and Jane G. (Champion) Montgomery, born 1809, died June 17, 1873.

"As you know, all these family names are old ones from South Carolina, Alabama & Mississippi."

Most of the information in this file concerning the descendants of Jonathan Tolbert Montgomery is supplied through Frederick Jackson Buckelew from Barbara C. Varner.

The name Onesimus is biblical, found in Colossians 4:9 and Philemon 10.

Wilma Reece has Onesimus born in the month of April.

Appears in 1970 and 1980 Censuses as "N. Bucklieu and Buckalew."

1880 census information from Tabitha Thompason who noted that "N. Buckalew" is "Onesium (sic) Buckalew."

2000, 24 Dec.: New information about this family from book, "Who Married Whom in Jasper Co., MS" by Jean Strickland--1994, was sent by Frederick Jackson "Jack" Buckelew.

On 7 February 1867 when Onesimus was 19, he married Martha or Mary (?) Jane Wells, in Jasper Co., MS. Born on 2 March 1845 in MS. Martha or Mary (?) Jane died on 29 August 1925; she was 80. Buried in Zion's Rest Congregational Meth. Ch. Cem., Wallace, DeSota Parish, LA.

Wilma Reece had her name as "Mary" rather than "Martha." Maybe it was both.
