Subject: Re: Looking up family

Okay, here goes: Because I only know from William I will start there: William BuckalewNancy Ross Jan. 30, 1858 S.M. Gilmore, Minister (this is information I am not positive about because the records said Nancy Rope, so I thought it could be a typo?)

These are the children, but I have no clue to the order: Bama Jane, Lettie Izola,Callie, Coriene, Dave,Tom- I do have a note he is the oldest. Bama married my grandfather Earnest Triston Gates in 1904. Lettie never married and lived with Bama and her family. Coriene married someone named Rodgers and moved to California. Callie married Mckinley and then Bill Jordon.

I just found a paper in my notes that is more information;
David Walter Buckalew (spelled Buckelew) I am finding so many different spellings!! Was born in Clarke Co. in 1877 and died in Morgan Co. in 1959. He had two brothers Thomas and Jeff. Five sisters, Coriene, Bama, Lettie,Callie, and ?? I cannot read this name but it looks like allie or like callie, but there is already a Callie.

It also says that William was buried in Georgia, but not sure where. This is a handwritten note that I got five or six yrs. ago from a Mr. David Buckelew- Brownsboro, Al. Before my dad died in 1996, he did have some contact with his cousins
Ellis and Ray, Dave Buckelew's sons, Faullville, Al. (I do not think they are still living.)

Then this note states that the father was William from Georgia and he married Nancy Ross in Clarke Co.Nancy Ross Buckelew (again with "e") is buried in Cullman Co. Ebenezer cemetery .

The Cullman story is, after my grandmother and grandfather married they moved from Clarke, Co. to Cullman and my grandfather worked for the railroad company. I guess they took Nancy, Bama's mother with them. My dad who was born in 1916 never remembered having a grandmother there. So perhaps while he was two or three she was living with them in Cullman.

My dad died in 1996 and he was the last of his siblings, and he kept poor memories on family roots. He only kept up with his siblings. He only had a 6th grade education, and did not write things much or do things with paper work. He was a carpenter and then a building contractor.

Would you like to know more about the line of my dad and his siblings to add to the Buckalew pot? Let me know. Also with all I have sent, if you can use any of it to help me with any clues
on finding more about William and Nancy and their children and their line of Buckalew came from I sure would appreciate anything. I know you said you could not help with the Ross family.

One thing my dad told me years ago, but I do not know if it is true. He might mixed it up. He said that the Buckalew name was not his mom's line origional name. He said they were first Monroe's. He said that her family worked for the Buckalew
family and took on their name. Now does that sound possible?

I was really into looking for this information a few yrs. ago, but after my dad died we all had so much adjusting to do. My mom was still living, both retired to Gulf Shores, and I lived in Dothan. (my husband's) job.I got out of trying and now we have been transferred to Birmingham, and we have a computer and, well I am ready to try again. My mom just died on June 6th, so I have a desire to find out all I can before all information is lost.

Thanks for your time and help!! Lisa
