1865, May: A 20 Feb 1890 deposition from R. W. Ballard states that he lived one mile from J. L. Buckelew in Pike Co. in May 1865, and that Buckelew moved to Carroll Co., GA, in Jan 1880.

1868, 12 Dec; Pike Co, GA, Deed Bk M, p 728: James L. BuckAlew, Administrator of estate of James F. BuckAlew, sold a tract of land to Harriet Buckalew, widow of James F. B....

1870, 30 July, Pike Co., GA, Census: Carrie's initial is given as "F" and Lena is listed "Leonira."

Other records, thought to be more correct, give his enlistment date as 3 March 1862.

Paroled at Ft. Delaware in Feb 1865; was received at James River, VA, for exchange 12 Mar 1865. From 4 volume sset on GA CSA soldiers in the Alexandria, LA, Library.

1862, 4 March CSA Record: Pvt. James L. Buckelew enlisted this date with Co. H, 44th Regt, GA Inf., CSA, Pike Co. Vols. Was deafened by artillery charge and captured at Spotsylvania, Va. on 10 May 1864. Paroled at Ft. Delaware in Feb. 1865; was received at James River, Va. for exchange 12 Mar. 1865. From 4 volume set on GA CSA soldiers in the Alexandria, La. Library.

Wounded 10 May 1864 at Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA. Deafened by explosive charge. Taken prisoner of war on same date in same event.

One recorded states that he was paroled 15 Feb 1865 (estimated date) at Fort Deleware, DE, and exchanged 12 Mar 1865 at James River, VA.

On 20 December 1866 when James Lafayette was 25, he married Carrie Amanda Proctor, daughter of Gary G. Proctor (about 1813-) & Lenora/Leurany (?) Harris (about 1816-), in Pike Co., GA. Born on 27 March 1846 in GA.  Carrie Amanda died in Bowdon, Carroll Co, GA, on 9 August 1915; she was 69. Buried in Un. Meth. Ch., New Hope, Carroll Co., GA.

Elizabeth Axton has Carrie being born in November rather than March.

1860: Listed as a student at the Barnesville (GA) Masonic Seminary from Pike Co., GA.

A, 13th GA Volunteer Infantry, Evan's Brigade, Gordon's Division, Army of Northern VA, CSA..."Pike County "Confederate Guards." Was wounded in Wilderness of VA on 5 May 1864; died of wounds in Lynchburg, VA, on 24 May 1864. Buried there in Confederate Cem. H, 83rd line, Lot 197 (#8. 3rd line, Lot 197 - "Crumpton's.") 4 volume set on GA CSA soldiers in the Alexandria, LA, Library.

"He was wounded in the battle and died in a converted tobacco warehouse used as a hospital in Lynchburg."

Was transferred to the Barnesville (Lamar Co., GA) Blues, Co D, 3rd GA Battalion CSA and "died in service."(Surname spelled "Buckalew" in this record.)

1915 Bleckley Co., GA; filed Confederate pension application giving date and place of marriage to Henry Clay Cook.

On 17 December 1869 when Tamsy was 20, she first married Henry Clay Cook, in Pike Co., GA.
