2783. William Thomas Godard. Born on 31 October 1838 in Old Buckalew Hm, nr Liberty Hill, Pike Co., GA. William Thomas died in Milner, GA, on 16 August 1908; he was 69. Buried in Milner Cem., Milner, GA.

A Primitive Baptist minister, successful farmer, and soldier of the Confederacy, serving four years as bugler for his Georgia Regiment.
He and wife Isabella Harden were parents of two children who died young.
He and his second wife had six children to live to be grown: two medical doctors, two successful teachers, and one a minister of the Gospel who also had an important office in State Education in Atlanta until he was a very old man.
Ordained by a presbytery of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church in 1867 and served the church as Elder over a period of 26 years. Must have continued to preach long afterward. Also preached at Union Primitive Baptist Church, Goggans, GA, for many years before his son, George Delma.
Founded Flat Rock Primitive Baptist Church at Zebulon, GA.
Pastored at Flat Rock, Zebulon, GA, and Concord in Jasper County, GA, for a total of 41 years.
He taught in the public schools in GA for 21 years. The first Special Supervisor of Rural Schools in GA and was connected with the GA School Dept. for 20 years until his retirement in 1933.
One of four men to install the military department of Gordon Military Academy.
The first Supervisor of Industrial Training for the embryonic State Board of Vocational Education, in which capacity he set up educational programs serving black citizens at the community and county levels.
Published a newspaper, the Primitive Baptist Messenger about 1890 to 1904.

On 27 July 1859 when William Thomas was 20, he first married Isabella Lovdicy Harden, in Spalding Co., GA. Born on 1 June 1838. Isabella Lovdicy died on 29 September 1861; she was 23.

On 10 November 1867 when William Thomas was 29, he second married Martha Missouri Brown, daughter of Robert Brown & Sara / Sallie (?) Long. Born on 12 March 1846. Martha Missouri died in Milner, GA, on 25 October 1927; she was 81. Buried in Milner, GA.

On 8 September 1859 when Sarah Ann Elizabeth was 16, she married Robert B. Colwell, in Spalding Co., GA. Born on 20 August 1834. Robert B. died on 21 January 1909; he was 74. Buried in Liberty Primitive Bap. Ch. Cem., Lamar Co., GA.
