6542. Janie Lucy Gazaway. Born on 3 February 1911 in Blount Co., AL. Janie Lucy died in Blount Co., AL, on 25 November 1977; she was 66. Buried in Rock Springs Cem., Blount Co., AL.

Lucy and her husband are buried in Rock Springs United Methodist Cemetery on Blount Co. Hwy #6, approximately 2 miles west of Rainbow Crossing, Hwy 231 and 278. Lucy was adopted by James and Cynthia Shelton about 191 or 1914. The 1920 Blount Co., AL census indicates that she was eight years old. Marriage license of William John Gasaway and Zeldia Rolins gives marriage date as 18 May 1910. Tombstone inscription of Lucy gives birth date as 3 Feb 1910. Lucy's daughter remembers what a problem her mother had drawing social security because she didn't have a birth certificate and wasn't sure of her age. Lucy's mother, Zeldia, died when Lucy was only two or three years old. It seems almost certain that she never knew her exact birth date. (I believe her birth date to be 3 Feb 1911.

On 25 October 1927 when Janie Lucy was 16, she married David D. Underwood.
