Family values are essential

All people desire family values, such as love, care, intimacy, acceptance, commitment, and shared responsibility. This is why people from all religious, political and social persuasions say our society needs family values.

But values by themselves are not enough

There is something missing from the discussion of values alone."Family values" has become a cliche; so general that it is meaningless. For instance, we can be sure that both saints and murderers desire care and acceptance. Both virgins and adulterers surely desire love and commitment. Therefore, the cry for "family values" does little to improve the safety of our streets or the sanctity of our souls.

A discussion of true family values

This is why we are examining the question of true family values. True family values are based upon principles by which we can define standards of right and wrong, how to achieve goals of health and happiness, and practical means toward success.

True Family Values explore seven such principles . . . stepping stones for our families to achieve the growth of love:

1. Make a commitment to your family and hometown.
2. Live for the greater whole.
3. Learn true love in the school of the family.
4. Dedicate your own family to the global family of humankind.
5. Strive daily to put the spiritual above the physical.
6. Align with heaven to share blessings on earth.
7. Be sexually pure to create the true culture.

We invite you to explore these principles based on the Family Pledge, the "mission statement" of the Unification Movement, through the Seven Principles for the Growth of Love, wrestling with challenging topics:
