I was
fifteen/sixteen years old debating in high school comparitive religion in
Forensic
Competition. Generally you are compelled to debate each and every
religion, depending on the type of debate that you participated in. Well,
the summer prior to this we had received our assignments on the upcoming
year to study comparative religion. The first couple weeks of summer
vacation did the normal research in libraries, books, etc. I was offered
to go to Israel in place of someone who could not attend this summer
program. I stayed with a muslim family who taught me about Islam, got the
experience of living with a muslim family, and a host of information
on Islam. I came back to the states thinking that I was prepared for
competition, however, I had come home to find out that the person's place
I had taken for the trip, had become muslim over the summer. During
that same year my cousin who was a producer at a local radio station and
offered me an opportunity to assist in helping with a teen talk show. One
of the members of the talk show, was so happen to
be muslim along with my friend who had become muslim. Most of our
conversations were geared towards Islam and found myself debating for it
rather than opposing it. I found myself at some point during the debates
questioning what I thought I knew or believed about other religions and
elected to debate Islam because everything else I was just not feeling it.
In my debates, the judges could tell that I was not convinced about
Christianity
or Judaism. Until one night after a debate, I called my friend
up and asked where do I got to become muslim and get orientated because my
passion to learn more about it, and to defend it wholeheartedly was too
natural for me to not believe in it or not be a Muslim. I debated and won
many rounds of competition like my life depended on it. It did...I became
muslim the next day. After that season was over, I never debated anything
else in High School or competed in Forensics. Islam was enough for me.
