The chakra chart above
shows the location of the seven main physical chakras on the body. Here is a brief outline
of the relationship of these seven chakras to our spiritual, mental, physical and
emotional bodies. The Sanskrit names for each chakra are also included.

1st (Base or Root) Chakra:
Muladhara
The base chakra represents our relationship to the earth and the material world. It
represents stability, survival, the power to achieve, material gain and manifestation. It
is our centre of life energy and relates very much to the physical body. It is located at
the perineum, between the anus and the genitals.
Some problems related to blocks at the base chakra include the inability to manifest our
needs and desires; feeling that our lives are out of control and unstable; the inability
to effectively heal in the physical sense (such as wounds, cuts and so on); haemophilia;
leukaemia.
Parts of the body: bones, teeth, nails, spinal column, waste organs (eg. colon, rectum),
blood and the building of cells
Element: earth
Sense: smell
Colour: red
Some stones used: Jaspers for the easing of physical ailments; grounding stones such as
hematite and black tourmaline; energisers such as smoky quartz. In general, use red, brown
and black stones.
2nd (Navel, Sacral or
Sexual) Chakra: Svadisthana
The navel chakra relates to our sensuality, sexuality, pleasure, creativity and
enthusiasm. It is very much concerned with our sexual energy which is also our creative
fire. It is located at the sacral plexus.
Some problems related to blocks at the navel chakra may be: the inability to conceive
(women); infertility (women and men); impotence, frigidity, toxic build up (for example
candida); urinary tract infection.
Parts of the body: reproductive system, kidneys, bladder, pelvic girdle, body fluids,
circulatory system
Element: water
Sense: taste
Colour: orange
Some stones used: carnelian, peach aventurine, apricot quartz and peach moonstone - in
general, orange stones
3rd( Solar Plexus) Chakra:
Manipura
The solar plexus is our personal power centre, the place where we assimilate feelings such
as intense emotion, laughter, joy and anger. It is one of our intuitive centres: the place
where we hold our "gut feelings" and where we shape our experiences. It relates
to our sense of power and influence, strength, wisdom ("inner knowing"), will
and self esteem.
Some problems related to blocks at the solar plexus include: low self-esteem, feelings of
powerlessness, digestive problems, stomach problems, cancer, ulcers, diabetes, eating
disorders, hypoglycaemia.
Parts of the body: lower back, abdomen, digestive system, stomach, liver, spleen,
pancreas, automatic nervous system
Element: fire
Sense: sight
Colour: yellow
Some stones used: citrine, tiger eye, yellow topaz, yellow fluorite - in general, yellow
stones
4th (Heart) Chakra: Anahata
The heart chakra relates to love, compassion, sharing, selflessness, devotion and healing,
self esteem, self love and love of others. It is located between the breasts.
Problems related to blocks at the heart chakra include depression, suicidal tendencies,
heart attack, asthma, blood pressure, lung dis-ease, poor circulation, lack of self esteem
(failure to love oneself), failure to attract loving relationships.
Parts of the body: heart, upper back, lower lungs, blood and circulatory systems, thymus,
arms and hands.
Element: air
Sense: touch
Colour: traditionally green but in crystal therapy also pink
Some stones used: rose quartz, rhodonite, green aventurine, kunzite, jade, pink, green and
watermelon tourmaline and other pink or green stones
5th (Throat) Chakra: Visuddi
The throat chakra is our communication centre and relates to our ability to communicate
effectively, creative expression, self expression, being open, independence, inspiration.
It is the gateway to expanded consciousness, being the bridge between the lower chakras to
the upper chakras or spiritual centres. It is located at the base of the throat.
Problems associated with blocks at the throat chakra include laryngitis, sore throat, lung
dis-ease, colds, thyroid problems, infections of those parts of the body associated with
the throat chakra, inability to express oneself (eg. speech disorders).
Parts of the body: neck, throat, jaw, ears, voice, trachea, bronchial tubes, upper lungs,
arms, shoulders, thyroid and parathyroid.
Element: Ether (Sanskrit: Akasa)
Sense: hearing
Colour: light to bright blue
Some stones used: blue lace agate, aquamarine, blue topaz, turquoise, blue chalcedony
6th (Third Eye) Chakra: Ajna
The third eye chakra relates to the development of psychic skills and intuition, inner
senses, perception, self-mastery, mind power, manifestation and projection of our will. It
is located at the brow, just above the bridge of the nose.
Problems associated with blocks at the third eye include headaches, sinusitis, colds and
flu, paralysis, pimples, nightmares, impaired vision, and the inability to think clearly
and focus the mind.
Parts of the body: face, ears, nose, sinuses, cerebellum and the central nervous system.
Senses: extra sensory perception (ESP)
Colour: indigo
Some stones used: amethyst, lapis lazuli or other purple and dark blue stones such as
sodalite, dumortierite, sugilite, charoite
7th (Crown) Chakra:
Sahasrara
The crown chakra relates to spirituality and spiritual development and enlightenment. It
is our link to universal consciousness and spiritual bliss. It is located at the crown of
the head.
Problems associated with a blocked crown chakra include migraine, brain tumour, failing
eyesight, feelings of alienation, and the failure to develop spiritually.
Part of the body: cerebrum (brain)
Colour: violet
Some stones used: can be violet, silver, white or gold, including quartz crystal,
selenite, apophyllite, amethyst, pyrite, diamond. The metals gold and silver are also for
the crown chakra
