Sequentia performs at Lincoln Center July 10th
Musical Instruments have been found in several Viking Age archaeological sites. Figuring out how and what was played on them is a bigger mystery that some researchers have played around with. The New York Times has an article called 'Edda': Presenting an Epic as Vikings Might Have Heard It by Johanna Keller. The origins of Benjamin Bagby and the group Sequentia's Edda-based performance is discussed here. If you can't make it to Lincoln Center search for the CD called "Edda - Myths from Medieval Iceland" by Sequentia on Deutsche Harmonia Mundi -- keep in mind that I think the musical arrangements are a bit 'out there'.... or see The Edda: Sequentia and Ping Chong & Company or Seqentia's webpage.
