M P 3 - Related... |
I'm using WINAMP by Nullsoft. Grab a free copy over at http://www.winamp.com/ . While you're there, go to the plugins section and grab the cross-fade plugin. It will automatically fade one song into the next... just like the radio stations. Very cool. You should have at least an MMX machine to run it. It choked on an ancient P75 but worked fine on a P166 and a P500. | |
Finding
|
You
might get hooked on this new program for trading
M P 3 's. It's based on IRC and
gives you instant access to HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SONGS. It's a "sharing"
concept. Everyone gets access to each other's M P 3 files...
kind of like ICQ but better... a lot better. Did I mention it's free?
Check it out at http://www.napster.com.

Ripping
& Copying
CD's |
I'm
using CDex from http://www.cdex.n3.net/
free with the built-in "LAME" encoder
and am encoding at the 256 kbit rate to create high-quality results. (You
could also grab a copy of BladeEnc
for encoding if you want to try something different). |
Encoding
|
I'm
presently using the LAME encoder that comes with CDex and am quite happy
with it. Most of the encoders out there provide good quality at the higher rates. For encoding songs at 128 kbits or less, the Fraunhofer is the best one to use. While the "Xing" encoder may be fast, the general consensus is that the quality is awful at all but the highest rates. |
Hardware | If you are planning to build an M P 3 player for your car, you should check out this site. Originally, this guy was selling the plans to build an M P 3 player out of spare computer parts. Now he sells complete players. http://www.carplayer.com/ |

Be sure to check out the pathetic work of Ed Runions and Jason Runions of “Wet Paint” aka “Wet Paint And Design” aka “Runions Home Renovations” as they attempted to paint a house (and failed miserably)... |
