Software
In response to feedback from programmers in
the technical community, as well as political
satire from some whose votes will determine the
fate of the NT RTI Act, we have agreed to
include the version of the Deliverance software
actually used by the people who have made use of
the Act, as well as the existing colourised
demonstration version previously available from
this site.
The PC Version zipfile now contains both
versions of the program, and a MS Word 6
document which explains our reasons for using a
computer, rather than the more reliable
expedient of a mechanical switch, which need be
pressed only once, to achieve the objective
desired by the patient.
The practical purpose of the programme is to
enable the dying be be the agent of their
self-determined will, rather than a subject, or
object, acted upon by a doctor. We wanted as far
as possible to allow the patient to be free from
medical intervention by the doctor, and to allow
the patient's loved ones rather than the doctor
to occupy their personal space at the end of
their lives.
The major objective of the programme is to
draw attention to the rights of the terminally
ill and dying and to encourage discussion of the
issues surrounding personal and public attitudes
towards death and dying.
