Asian American Observer

About Asian American Observer

Asian American Observer is an on-line newsletter dedicated to advancing the Asian American minority into an equal-partner status in the American society.

It does so by calling attention to Asian Americans the need to become more knowledgeable about the social and political systems of their adopted country, and to more fully participate in them. It also call appeals to the mainstream population to be more understanding and receptive to this fast-growing minority group that is highly contributive to the success of this country.

In each bi-monthly issue, the Asian American Observer will provide a summary of the key recent events that specially affect the Asian American community, and an opinion piece dealing with one of the major current event or issue. On an on-going basis, the newsletter will also provide in-depth, objective analyses of issues most affecting Asian Americans.
Asian American Observer will also serves as a focal point to debate on Asian American issues by providing members of the community as well as the general public an electronic "Forum" . It also serves as a focal point for Asian American opinions by conducting surveys on various matters.

Thus, Asian American Observer is published not only for Americans of all Asian ancestries (Chinese, Indians, Filipinos, Koreans, Japanese, Pakistanis, Vietnamese, etc., but also for other minorities as well as mainstream Americans who are interested in developing an all-inclusive society.

America is a wonderful country and a very unique one in the family of nations: It is the most welcoming country and is still full of opportunities. It’s no wonder that, despite all the complaints about racial discrimination, bias crimes, declining morality and xenophobic sentiment, immigrants from all continents are still swarming over at an increasing rate, including a large number from Asian countries. The overriding question is not whether this country is good or bad; rather it’s how we, people of all colors, can work together to make it better for everyone.

It is in this spirit that this newsletter is created: To serve as a forum to search for solutions for problems affecting Asian Americans, and as a catalyst to promote Asian Americans into equal partners in this country.

Asian American Observer is very much an outgrowth of my association with Asian American Political Coalition (AAPC), a non-profit, bi-partisan civic organization dedicated to promoting the political awareness and participation for Asian Americans. Having served as President of AAPC for two years (1994-95) and editor of the Asian American Voice for five (1993-97), I decided to create this on-line newsletter in order to have a freer range to express my personal opinion and to broaden the reach of my messages.

In the beginning, Asian American Observer will have the following sections. As we progress, we will create new, useful sections as necessary:
  • News and Views: Compact reports on pertinent events and issues with comments on their significance to the Asian American community as well as the entire country.
  • Issues and Analyses: In-depth descriptions of pertinent issues and comprehensive analyses.
  • Editorial: Bi-monthly statement of opinion on a timely subject matter, written by the staff or guest contributors.
  • Campaigns: A mechanism for rallying Asian American support for specific issues that affect, and activities that benefit, their community.
  • Forum: An arena reserved for the discussion of specific Asian American-related issues and is open to all.
  • Surveys and Polls: A mechanism for polling Asian American opinions on various issues.
  • Archives: An area where visitors can dig up selected articles from previous issues.

Finally, Asian American Observer is a voluntary effort. It is not funded by any political or commercial entity. All writers contribute their writings voluntarily with no compensation.

You can express your support by registering yourselves as subscribers (Subscription form under construction)There is no subscription fee. All we ask is for you to participate in our opinion polls as they are published. Also, please feel free to tell us what you think of this newsletter and how we can improve it.
