Team Outline
Going to the Provincials... this is a dream come true! It's been a while since our girls team has made an appearance at the championships...rumour is 1985. This season the Fort Assiniboine Bears competed in seven tournaments. Some or our highlights include: a third place fnish at St. Mary's (Westlock) tournament; consolation at Breton; first place finishes in Whitecourt and Barrhead and, of course, qualifying for the Provincials.
School and Town Profile
Fort Assiniboine is a tiny school in a tiny town nestled in the woods and farmland northwest of Barrhead. By day the town population expands by 217 or so people as the buses roll in for school. We are a K - 12 school with a specialization in Forestry. The bouncing of basketballs can constantly be heard echoing throughout our school and the tradition starts at a young age. After our school pep rally this year the grade 2/3 class approached oue of our coaches and asked "Can you start a basketball program for the grades 2/3?" We are very excited to be attending Provincials, and are planning to make our next return a lot soon then the 15 years it took this time!
