THE HOUSE AT THE EDGE OF THE WOOD

No, it's not Manderly, nor is it Tara. Although there are elements of each in some of the rooms and elements of the house. It's a creative figment born in the imagination of John Crowley, to whom this page is dedicated.

John Crowley's worlds of imagination are many and varied; the chessboard right and wrong of "The Deep", a story which gives an entirely unexpected twist to the Levithan mythos, or Little, Big's fresh look at conventional faerie that comes forth from the juxtaposition of nineteenth century spirtualism, of the sort that Harry Houdini was famous for debunking with a love story between eight humans who are at the same time both more and less than they seem.

I also hold that Little Big dovetails well with by Mark Helprin, but I have yet to suceed in getting anyone to read the latter.

Then there are the swirling and multi-layered complexities of Aegypt and Love and Sleep which dare to challange our most dearly held myth, that our reality is the true reality, accept no substitutes.

a charming little fairy

Except maybe magic . . .
