Pictures of Freddie, soaking some rays...

These pictures were taken during the Summer of 1997, our first year in our new home. This is the very first house we've ever bought (until now, we've been living in an appartment). Finally, Freddie can do some serious sun-worshiping!

Freddie on the patio table
The best thing to do when bringing an iguana outside is undoubtedly putting him in an outdoor cage, which we haven't had a chance to build yet. Because Freddie is very relaxed around us, we didn't think it too risky to put her on the patio table. Obviously, we didn't leave her there without supervision. I always stayed very close to Freddie in these situations...

Freddie in the pool
Lots of people freak out when they see this picture... "Gasp, chlorine!!!" Well, before going and sending me e-mails to flame me for my apparent negligeance, allow me to explain...
First of all, I talked to other GGI owners (through the #iguanas channel) before introducing Freddie to the pool, and they assured me that the chlorine wouldn't be a problem (makes sense, after all, our children swim in that water...), as long as the water temperature is adequate (at least 80F) and the air temperature is also warm enough. And, of course, supervise the swimmer.
Certainly, chlorine isn't the best thing in the world for skin; its main purpose is to kill the "crap" in the water. But I feel this is a small consideration next to the benefits being in the pool can provide to your iguana (e.g., exposure to sunlight...). This is especially true in our situation, since we don't have a sunning cage yet... But we're planning on making one next summer.
And, finally, it would be wise to rinse your iguana with fresh water to remove the chlorine residues.
(For the same reason we humans take a shower after swimming...)
