I purchased a new computer with Windows
99 operating system already installed. Windows came with a desktop
calculator but when I attempted to use it, I discovered that the
numeric keypad was dysfunctional. Contacting technical support,
it was discovered that the keyboard was defective. As the system
was under warranty, the defective part was replaced but it too
was defective as the numeric keypad would not function.
Over an hour of technical support later,
we were still unable to determine the cause of the problem. Over
the last five years of computer operations and dozens of hours
talking with tech support, I have learned a lot about Windows
operating system, yet, the problem eluded us until I made a mistake.
While the technician was away from the phone
consulting his data base, I depressed the number lock on the keypad.
However, my finger slipped off the key and landed on the / key
instead. Recognizing my mistake, I again depressed the number
lock then depressed a number key. To my consternation, the keypad
worked properly. While the technical was still searching his database,
I turned off the number lock, then turned it back on. The key
pad failed to work until I depressed the / key then the number
lock, where upon it worked properly.
I explained the solution to the technical
when he returned from his fruitless search. He shook his head
and asked if I could live with the improvisation as he hadnt
the slightest idea how to solve the problem.
To a casual reader, this may appear as a
fortunate coincidence, yet, such is not the case, for it was the
Lord who directed me to the proper combination of keys strokes.
Coincidence would never have solved the problem.
This is just another example of the providential blessings the Lord showers upon us every day if our eyes are open to discern His hand at work.
