Dear Steve Williams:
Someone told me recently that you were baptized several months ago. This is wonderful news. It is always nice to see a young man giving his heart and life to the Lord. You were named after another young man who was a wonderful missionary, working with Paul, that great missionary to the gentiles.
I imagine your baptism was a happy occasion for you, and your
parents, as it gave you an opportunity to publicly express your
desire to live for Christ by reflecting His character of love.
As I told your brother, in the letter I wrote to him, you have
a wonderful missionary field in your own home and all around you
in the neighborhood. There must be many boys and girls, at the
school where you attend, who would be eager to learn about Christ.
You can share with them the stories your mother told you since
you were a small child.
When the other school children see that there is something different
about you, that you are kind and sympathetic, quiet and not boastful,
they will immediately recognize that you know Christ as your personal
Savior. This gives you a opportunity to explain why you were baptized
and why you cherish the Lord. Think of Samuel who worked for the
Lord in the temple and of the boy Jesus as He told other children
about His heavenly Father.
You can do more for Christ then many adults. When people get older,
they loose interest in the Lord and it is harder to reach them
and witness to them, but while they are still children they are
more receptive to the gospel. With your special training in the
stories of the Bible, which you received from your wise mother,
you can now share what you have learned with others and win them
to the faith. A large missionary field is open to you and Christ
invites you to enter it and work for Him. There comes a time in
every oness life, when school is over and work must begin.
Your missionary school is over and your time to work as a missionary
has begun. Take Christ as your counselor and gain wisdom from
Him. He will teach you how to work for Him and bless your efforts.
Work for the Lord is the true purpose of baptism and it is always
nice to see a young man, such as yourself, entering this most
valuable line of endeavor. If faithful, you will hear the well
done, thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy
of the Lord, from Christ Himself.
Do not fail to be strong to do and dare for Christ. The joy of
seeing souls saved in the kingdom is one of the greatest blessings
imaginable and you have just begun your work for Him.
Be of good courage, Christ loves you. May the Lord bless, your
brother in Christ.
