Cameron had his first decent trip in a car on the weekend. We went from one side of Sydney to the other and back again, about 180 kilometres (1). He saw :
Actually, he wasted a lot of time asleep, considering the effort we put into organising this trip. Of course anyone who has kids will know what I mean. He rules everything despite sleeping most of the daytime (5) and none of the night. All those people who said we had no idea of what was going to hit us were exactly right.
Seriously though, we've had some very hot days (several days over 40 celsius), and the bush fires have created a couple of really smoky days as well. It makes for a colourful sunset, but you really can taste and smell the air on these days, and I guess it's affecting him a bit.
Did you ever see National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (where they blacked out the city with their christmas lights) ? Well, we've got whole streets of these people. There's a competition in Glenmore Park ($500 first and only prize(6)) for the 'best' lighting display. It started a couple of years ago in an attempt to give us brand new residents (in brand new houses) a sense of tradition. I've got plans to enter next year (7), but they involve going completely over the top with a tasteless display of gaudy lights that would drown out the Star City casino. Unfortunately, I think we would be lost in the crowd.

(5) Saving his energy for making noise late at night and early in the morning
(6) $500 wouldn't pay the electricity bill for some of these people
(7) Actually, they're the same plans I had last year
