13. Jisk alberts Boekema was born
on 17 Nov 1808 in Suawoude, Friesland. Because his mother's name was Yke Jiskes, we may
presume that Jisk was named after his maternal grandfather.
The LSD Family Research lists Jisk Alberte (has to be Alberts). He "migrated" from Friesland to Noord-Brabant and is the ancestor of the Boekema's in Michigan, USA. He served as a gunner ("kannonier") at Geertruidenberg in the Dutch Army when he got married. Lived in Teteringen (address: A 65) according to the 1840-1850 census. His family listed with 5 children in the population records of Breda in March 1855, and lived then Ginnekenstraat 77a. Population records of 1870-1880 mention that he was "straatveger", in service of the municipality to keep the streets clean.
He was married to Petronella Godschalk on 15 Jun 1839 in Terheyden N.Brabant. Although from protestant parents, he probably became a member of the catholic church because of his wife. Their immediate descendants, also those who moved to the States, professed the catholic faith.
