Do you know if Heaven will be your home
after this life on earth is over?
The Bible says Yes, we can know. I John 5:13-16 (NIV) I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of Him.
There are some steps we have to take to understand these verses.
First, we have to understand that we are all sinners. Romans 3:10 (NIV) says, "As it is written: there is no one righteous, not even one." Romans 3:23 (NIV) says "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." This little word all includes everyone. Sin separates us from God. There is a dividing wall between us and God and that is because we are sinners. Because of the sins of Adam and Eve, we have all inherited that sinful nature. Romans 6:23 (NIV) "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." If we got our just wages, we would get death. This death he is speaking of here is spiritual death. But because God loved us so much, He came from Heaven as Jesus Christ and gave His life on the cross. There He paid our sin debt. When He cried, "It is finished" He was saying our debt was paid in full. That kind of love is called agape love, the unmerited favor that God poured out on us. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV) says "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith (and this is not from yourselves it is the gift of God) not by works, so that no one can boast."
After confessing you are a sinner, the next thing you must do is to confess that there is nothing you can do for yourself about your sinful condition. You have to look elsewhere for something that is sure. The only thing that we can lay our hands on is the inerrant, infallible Word of God. That Word says that if anyone will call on Him, he will be saved, and everyone who does not call on Him is condemned already. Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
If you are not sure, please confess Him as Lord and Saviour today. Then start living in the victory that you have in Jesus our Lord. If you have, please send me e-mail. My prayers are with you.
