Johannes Baptist Ramsperger was born on June 24, 1864 in Gutenstein-Baden, Germany. He left home in 1890 (actual date 1887) with (supposely)a friend named David Martin. They traveled to the United States from France. First he settled in Barrytown, NY with David's family. Then moving to Germantown, NY where he married Catharine Maria Bathrick (from Gallatin, NY) on Jan. 27, 1892 at the Dutch Reform Church. They had seven children: John Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Isaac Allen, Raymond A., Edith May, David Martin, and Jennie Catharine. Johannes (John) died on Jan. 24,1923 in Vassar Bros. Hosp., Poughkeepsie, NY and is buried in the Veddar's Cemetary, Gallatin, NY. Catharine died on July 5, 1946 at the Pulver Bird Farm, Stanfordville, NY and is also buried in the Veddar's Cemetary, Gallatin, NY.


Johannes Baptist recieved his middle name because he was born on St. John the Baptist's birthday. His great-grandfather, Johannes Baptist Blender was born on the day St. John the Baptist was beheaded (August 15th).
Grandpa John was described as a tall, quiet, and hard working man.
Grandma Kate was best known for her cooking. Anytime of day and/or night when you visited, you were always fed.
