Po eventually grew into his nose. When he was two years old, he tipped the scales at 17 pounds. Yes, he was a little chubby, but he was a big cat with long legs and a large frame. I usually got the fat cat lecture when I took him to the vet, but my boy really loved to eat!
Possum was a handsome cat with emerald green eyes and luxurious, dense fur. This type of fur ran in his family and came to be known as "pofur". He wasn't a lap cat, but he like to sit next to me with his paws on my leg. And I often woke up with my big boy settled on my stomach.
Po was confident, sweet natured, and fearless. A neighbor once brought her doberman to my house, and Po walked up to him and touched noses. I only saw him "puff up" once when he saw an outdoor cat on our front porch. It was an awesome sight. This 17 pound, thick-furred cat managed to double his size in an instant!
Po went to the Rainbow Bridge very suddenly when he was 4 years old. I have always pictured him as a kitty angel with his soft, pofur wings folded against his back. Po was with me for too short a time, but he enriched my life while he was here.
Possum and his sister, Two, came to live with me in July, 1987 when they were 11 weeks old. Possum was a funny looking little kitten -- all ears and nose. In fact, he got his name from his long, pointed nose. He really did look like a baby possum.
