Victorian Crafts
Needlework was
the most popular craft of Victorian women. Anything from cross-stitched
samplers to hand-beaded purses. One of my favorite, besides cross-stitching,
is silk ribbon embroidery. Many fancy dresses were adorned with dainty
flowers that were carefully sewn on the fabric. Silk ribbon embroidery
has made a big comeback in the past few years. There are countless
books and phamplets in craft stores now as well as a wide variety of ribbons
and other supplies. One book that I highly recommend is "Elegant
Stitches" by Judith Baker Montano. Besides being a wonderful
reference manual, it also has a section on left-handed stitches, which
is most helpful for lefties like me!
Soon, there will be several craft ideas here to share
with you.
