Welcome to the pages of Yakatan Cavies - a small, select caviary in Townsville, north Queensland, Australia, specialising in Dalmatians. We commenced operation in July 1997 with animals from Stoney Creek, Tabiche, and Mystique studs. We were then fortunate to be able to purchase some animals from Renaissance, including two Ceildh sows. Since then we have expanded our caviary, and our numbers now fluctuate around the 30 cavy mark.
We are focussed on breeding Black Dalmatians, Chocolate Dalmatians and Golden Agouti Dalmatians.
The picture on the right is of the display that we set up with our cavies at shows. The display is quite a sight in the show halls and we feel it does a lot to lift the image of cavies. We are hoping to encourage others to follow suit, at least by giving their carry cages a coat of paint and ensuring that their animals are well cared for whilst at shows. After all - what you see on the outside (at shows) can often be a reflection of what things are like on the inside (at home).
On this page you will find news from our caviary, including show results and some photos of the animals we are currently using in our breeding programs. We have also included some photos of our caviary, and a graph detailing the weekly weights of all the cavies we have at present.
We are members of the North
Queensland Cavy Club, based in Townsville and we are one of
only 3 breeders of Dalmatian cavies in the far north at present.
The North Queensland Cavy Club conducts shows on the first Sunday
of the month from March to October in Townsville. For further
information about the North Queensland Cavy Club you can email
the club or visit the clubs website - see the table of links

Now that you've visited - make sure that you sign our guestbook. If you want to see what others have written you can view the guestbook here.
