Here we break for a moment from our discussion of the time-line in order to address a very mis-understood area of the Bible. The Antichrist has been spotted in an amazing number of places. Anyone unlucky enough to have any version of the famous "666" in any aspect of their lives or business are immediately suspect. The actual fact is that the Antichrist is not in power yet. He will come into power through a series of events that will happen soon. The thing to look for is a statue of a false Jesus in the inner temple in Jerusalem. Obviously it will not be called a false Jesus, but Jesus Himself warned us against worshipping ANY image. This is the "abomination of desolation" that Daniel spoke of. The nation (or ruler) that erects this statue will be the Antichrist. As is common, Satan will not allow this entity to be obvious - he or it will appear to be Jesus Himself. The statue will speak, adding to the indications that it is Jesus, but remember, it is not! Satan has used deception from the beginning of humankind. In the Garden of Eden, he enticed Eve into eating of the forbidden fruit, leading to the sin of Adam and the fall from Grace. Man's separation from God has been Satan's chief tool ever since to keep mankind in bondage to him. Jesus, however, freed us all from the grip of Satan - the only thing we need do to be freed is ask and believe. Satan attempts to stop us by any trickery he can come up with, whether it be sickness, fear, or confusion. In his last desperate attempt to cheat his own fate, Satan will set up a one-world government, initially with ten rulers. Three of these will be defeated by a new ruler, who will become the most powerful. One of the seven divisions of this government will be badly damaged. Whether this will be by political means, the attempted assassination of a leader, or geological calamity is uncertain. But the fact remains that one of the seven "heads" of this beast will be "wounded as unto death". Whatever this wounding is, it will be healed, to the astonishment of the people, leading to a new-found respect and admiration of this one-world government. It is very likely that the headquarters for the beast will be Jerusalem, since the "abomination of desolation" seems to be erected in the inner temple in Jerusalem, the "Holy of Holies". Given the present state of affairs in the Middle East, it is easily concievable that Israel would accept an offer for military help from an outside country - this theory has been put forth before. The military aid will turn into a military takeover after 3 1/2 years, leading to the abomination of desolation. When this is erected, there will almost immediately begin the tribulations. Next will be a massive earthquake, accompanied by severe volcanic activity and followed by a massive meteor shower. The sun and moon will be darkened for 3 days from the volcanic activity. Then comes the re-appearance of the true Jesus with his army of saints after 3 1/2 more years. This is where we left off our discussion. The life under the Antichrist will at first be pleasant. The requirement to conform to the monetary policy that is the "mark of the beast" will seem to be a small price to pay. The price, however will be astronomical once Jesus arrives. This "mark of the beast" will likely be an implant of some sort, which will identify the individual and conduct monetary transactions. No doubt it will be touted originally as a way to decrease crime and control criminals. There are presently several instances of governmental attempts to gain power over individuals by labelling it as "crime prevention". As crime steadily increases, this will become a more and more convincing argument. In short, I don't know who the Antichrist is, but I do know what to look for to identify him. He will come as a man of peace, of love, of understanding. He will be discovered to be one of war, hatred, and sadistic control. The best way to identify him, though, is through a personal relationship with Jesus. It's easy to recieve, and there's no cost. It may well be the only thing left in the world that is free. I am listing a more or less complete list here of organizations that can help you to meet him if you choose to. As I said in my introduction, my mission is not to convert you, but I would be amiss if I did not give you the opportunity to meet and know Jesus. Should you meet him through this writing, please e-mail me. I would love to know that this helped someone to find their way. Some fine Christian Organizations:
