Count Valencort 1995 Sorrel Gelding This is my three year old baby boy, Valencort. When my mother purchased his mother in April of 1995, the mare was quite pregnant with him, and we were told due to deliver at any time! Well, we waited for about a month, totally doting on the mom and waiting for this little bundle to arrive. Well, wouldn't you know that Ginger had our whole routine down and delivered him by herself shortly before anyone got to the barn? Funny thing. I got to the barn to feed and walked up to Ginger and lamented, once again, that there was no foal. Suddenly I heard this funny , sucking sound and looked around. There the little fellow was!! Still a little damp and just as wobbly as could be! In this picture, Valencort was eight months old and had been moved to Sam and Dale's farm, Point to Point. He was still a stallion at this point and really needed to be taught some manners. There's only so much training you can do with only a 10 acre field. He needed to be where I could work with him in a little more closed in area. On his first day there, he went out into the paddock to meet his new "teacher", an older bay named Mugsy. He soon found out that mounting a big, giant gelding was not the thing to do! He spent the rest of the afternoon running for his life! *LOL* Well, after a little bit of ground training, he came home, back to his 10 open acres. He, his mom and his new sister, Breeze took turns using the big pasture! Here, he is 14 months old. About 4 months later, in November, Valencort again moved; this time to Chris and Mona's place, Rock House Ranch. He had his own room in the big red barn and his own turnout paddock next to the front driveway. His buddy, a stallion named Charter, was across the driveway and his other buddy, a gelding named Hawk, was in the paddock next door. All three of them would stand around whinnying. I think they were telling jokes! *LOL* While Valencort was at RHR, he underwent "brain surgury"--he was gelded. My goodness! What a difference!! *whew* The next July, Valencort joined his mother and sister at Linda's place, Parker Quarter Horses. There, they had a one hundred acre field to run in. Valencort entered the herd of 7 horses on the bottom rung of the ladder, though he never quite figured that out. He always walked right up to Snoopy, the boss mare. Every single time, she would lay her ears back and bare her teeth. Snoopy took more than her fair share out of Valencort's hide! In this picture, Valencort (on left) is sharing some space with his favorite sister, Breeze!
