So...lets start with my personal testimony.
It may not be as exciting as some peoples, but I have learned that that is my biggest blessing!
It took me awhile and a struggle or two to realize that, but I finally did.
I wanted all the "big turn around" well sorry, God didn't see it that way.
He put me in a loving, Christian home where I attended church on a fairly regular basis. I will not say that I learned a lot about God or prayer or what it really was to have a personal relationship with Christ there, but it did give me the basic ground work I needed! I acknowledged Christ as Lord at the age of 9 at church camp. I was shortly thereafter batized. And that is pretty much where things stopped. I had no idea what was next! I went back to being a 9 year old. God never left me though (Hebrews 13:5-6) , actually it was just the opposite. He protected me and kept me from the numerous things that teenagers often find themselves involved in. I believe this is answer to my mother's often and faithful prayers for me! My junior year in highschool I met my husband. We married shortly after my graduation and just before my 18th birthday. Eventually, I did find a church and a discipleship program and was able to not only learn about and but develope the personal relationship with Christ I had desired for so many years.
First of all, discipleship is the key to a personal relationship. Don't leave people hanging once they have received Christ as Savior. Ask them how they get to know someone, a new friend, really well. Most will answer... by talking to them and spending time with them. Then, teach them about Talking to God through prayer and that He does talk to us through His Word, the Bible. Teach them it is necessary to really listen not just hear. And that you need to to be in constant communication with God. Then they can get to know God like the new best friend He is!!!
This is not my first lesson, but probably the hardest to learn was to compare myself to only Christ, no one else. This came at a time I felt as unaccepted and not good enough for my Christian friends. I never seemed to be "spiritual" enough.
Another lesson: No matter where I am or what I am doing I am an example of Christ. My relationship with Him shows in all I say and do. The way I react to situations. By the way, I think it is better to wait a few minutes and act upon something as opposed to immediately reacting to something. This is still something I am learning to do! A lesson that goes right along with this is learning to bridle the tongue aka think before you speak. A major struggle for me at times.
One last thing I want to share with you is this, Remember God puts people and things in our paths for a reason. Nothing happens by chance. Everything is like a piece of a puzzle, it fits perfectly, although we don't always see where or why. God knows exactly where it goes and why! Trust in Him and His timing. Rely on his strenght not your own. And be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading especially to the people God puts in our paths. You may never see the results of showing God's love to them, by listening, say hello, giving them a kind smile or a hug just when they needed it, but they know the results of it and you just may see them in the mansion prepared for us in Heaven because of it.
