The Banff Springs Hotel in Banff National Park is just about incredible. The setting is awesome and the architecture stunning. We spent our second night here.
The motorcoach ride over from Calgary gave us a nice introduction to the Canadian Rockies. We entered Banff National Park through Canmore and instantly fell in love with the area. Banff Townsite is, of course, tourist oriented. But, you can quickly hike down to the Bow River and find yourself in another, natural world. Which is exactly what we did. Picniked along the river and then walked along it at length. Saw our first Elk across the Bow River. Banff itself is fun to wander around. After a few hours in town, we were taken up to the Hotel to get checked in.
After that, we hiked down along the Spray River for at least 5 miles, ran into hardly anyone and loved it! After getting back, we had dinner in the Rob Roy Room at a window table that allowed us to watch the sunset over the Bow Valley.
